World Adventurers Celebrates 1,000 Posts

Dear Reader,

World Adventurers hit a major milestone today — 1,000 published posts! A thousand articles and updates later, this blog is still going strong.

I started World Adventurers in December 2004, as a way to update family and friends about life overseas. It has evolved in ways I never imagined when I wrote my first “Hello, World” post. Since then I’ve written about my books, writing, news and politics, humor, sports, finance, culture, thoughts and sayings, updates from around the world, and other topics. My travelogues have been by far this site’s most popular feature.

The early blog hosted by the now-defunct MSN Spaces Live had more than 350,000 hits and was featured regularly by Microsoft on its “What’s Your Story” page. At a time when blogging was far less ubiquitous, World Adventurers was — and remains — on the frontiers of digital media. whatsyourstory

Readership declined when Spaces Live folded and I took a breather from blogging in 2008-09. World Adventurers moved to WordPress in late 2010, and made a roaring comeback since then with another 300,000 hits. Earlier this year the site moved to its new and permanent home on my website, www.mgedwards.com, and was rebranded as World Adventurers Magazine. This site hosted by WordPress and featured on Freshly Pressed has remained so popular that I haven’t shut it down; it’s still going strong and complements the new e-zine. All told, World Adventurers has had about 700,000 unique hits and tens of thousands of visitors since its inception.

2013 in Review and 200,000 Hits

With this blog approaching 200,000 hits since its relaunch in August 2011, it’s a good time to publish World Adventurers‘ stats for last year. All in all, not a shabby year for me considering that my blogging was not as consistent as it was before. I needed more time to work on new material for upcoming books I will publish in 2014. This, I hope, will be the first of many new posts in 2014 and push this blog over 300,000 hits. As always, Dear Reader, thanks for visiting World Adventurers and for your continued support.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared the 2013 World Adventurers annual report.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 120,000 times in 2013. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 5 days for that many people to see it.

What People are Reading

I browsed my blog statistics and history to see what people have been reading on World Adventurers.  The blog has had over 295,000 hits since its inception in December 2004.  Although readership declined precipitously over the past couple of years after I neglected to update it frequently, the blog still received about 100 hits per week.  Most were archive searches on entries posted about Korea.  Readership has climbed a bit since I started posting again.

I blogged very little while I was in Paraguay; I’m back to blogging in Zambia but am not focusing much (yet) on topics related to Zambia or Africa.  Blogging here can be a hazardous endeavor.  A couple foreigners living in Zambia were scrutinized this year for what some of their postings.  It’s a shame but the reality here.  I will post some thoughts and insights on Zambia and Africa soon…after I determine what I can blog about without raising the ire of the Luddites.
